SAINT STEPHENS DAY: Plans for the annual festival walk and activities are currently being put in place.
GAME OF TIT AND TAT: Unusually seated on a fence post a sparrow hawk kept his eyes beaded in a south easterly direction despite ongoing distractions. Around its head over and back and up and down flew a member of the Magpie family. Unable to distract his more formidable foe the Sparrow Hawk took flight for the Ash tree that he was focussed on over a bank overlooking a dried up stream. In doing so he was followed immediately by his tormentor as their activities caused the start of the autumnal fall of leaves as they moved through its branches. Oblivious to the ongoing activities below the local swallows and house martins soared way above as a single white spot on the bank turned out to be one of many field mushrooms. Whatever the attraction or distraction the activities continued when they moved into a nearby sceach heavily laden with red berries in their game of follow the leader.
