Tipperary County Council was inundated with objections to the proposal to erect a wind turbine at Rathclarish overlooking the Lingaun Valley and the Kilkenny/Tipperary border. At close of business on Friday eighty four objections had been lodged on the system with more expected to be processed when the Council staff returns on Monday. The plans of Lana Wind Development Limited are being vigorously opposed by local residents who are angry that there was no public consultation with regard to the turbine. This follows on from the Dunoair proposal to erect eight turbines on an adjacent site and residents are fearful that they will be over-run with Giant turbines. SLIEVENAMON WALK: Local Anti-Wind Turbine action groups combined to hold a well-attended fundraising walk on Slievenamon on Sunday last. The event began with a talk on the history of the area by Robert Duggan in Kilcash Hall before the walkers set off towards the summit. After braving the elements of rain and wind the returning walkers were treated to refreshments and music in the hall. A break in the weather allowed the last of the walkers to enjoy the splendid views from the summit of the famous mountain and all expressed the wish that these views would remain un-blighted from wind turbines. REPLAY REQUIRED: The lights remain on for the Senior Camogie aspirations of 2015 for both Windgap and Ballyhale Shamrocks after their first round clash in Ballyhale on Saturday evening. Scheduled with extra time to send one side into the relegation zone and the other in search of a first senior county title, the light or lack of it on a dull August evening gave both sides a Championship lifeline. As the dying minutes saw the sides tied at 1-4 each, the Shamrocks forged a point aged before Windgap equalized as the scheduled extra time beckoned. However it was not to be in the low scoring game where defences dominated as referee Richard Dowling deemed the playing of extra time unsafe. Overall the performance of Jacqui Frisby at centre back for Ballyhale was outstaying as she dominated the game with mazy runs from the edge of one square to the edge of the other. Ably assisted by her sister Edel she almost met her match in Windgaps heroine of Lisa Phelan who put her body on the line in search of victory. Lisa was ably assisted by Catherine Foley, Denise Gaule, Ann Marie Phelan and the battling Phena Heffernan, Caoimhe O’Shea and Mickealla Kenneally. To be noted was the commitment of the Cody sisters Joanne and Aisling who left their work and college in Scotland at six in the morning and headed home to play their part. After with Joanne lined out at corner forward the sisters were back on the road a couple of hours later to do the reverse trip. The proposed replay date of Tuesday evening next will see the home ALL IRELAND FORECAST: The Hurling Club are organising a Guess the Score competition on the All-Ireland Final for Hurling Club Developments. LOCAL DEVELOPMENTS: Community groups on both sides of the Kilkenny, Tipperary border are deeply concerned about the nature of LANA Wind Developments as there has been neither public consultation nor any attempt to publicise the development in South Tipperary. The single wind turbine that is reported to be thirteen years old is 77.5metres high to the tips of the blades, and will have a capacity of 500kW. It is proposed that the turbine would be located only 600 metres from the proposed Carrigadoon Wind project which consists of eight 127 metre high three megawatt turbines on the edge of an area deemed unsuitable for wind energy development by Tipperary County Council. In their application LANA Wind Developments, has stated that they intend to apply for a second turbine in the same location. It is believed that there are also other small wind energy companies about to apply for permission in the area to erect one turbine at a time and thereby creating a large wind energy project in an area that is supposed to be protected by Tipperary County Council.
