CHRISTMAS BAZZAR: The annual Christmas Bazzar will take place in the Community Centre, Windgap on Sunday 14th December from 2.00 p.m. Santa will arrive about 3.00 p.m. It will feature the usual attractions of Spinner, raffles, cakes & Hams, fresh products etc. Your support is very welcome. UNDER 21'S WIN Windgap Camogie team won the Under21 B County title on Saturday last in the Kells Road venue. It was against Clara, the ground conditions were good and it was cold but dry, scores flowed right through the game Niamh Phelan helped herself to 1-4 and Niamh Bambrick, Alison Bergin both got a goal apiece and Catherine Foley scored 4 points. In the second half the Windgap girls were not going to let go of the lead with an outstanding performance from all the backs especially Michaela Kenealley, as they showed great spirit to claim the U21 County Title. The team was Laura Walker, Aishling Cody, Michaela Kenneally, Aishling Foley, Ciara Molloy, Eimear Moylan, Deirdre Purcell, Catherine Foley, Amy Leigh Cahill, Caoimhe O'Shea, Aine Dunne, Alison Bergin, Niamh Bambrick, Jane Walker, Roisin Byrne, Becky Lomax, Heather McLoughlin, Emily Murphy, Elaine Power, Grace Foley. GAA AGM: Parents of all players from under six upwards, Players and Members are invited to the Annual General Meeting of Windgap Hurling Club which takes place in the Club Rooms on Friday next the 12th December at 8pm. HANDBALL NEWS: Gerard Doyle and Michael O’Shea were both re-elected as Vice Chairman and Facilities Officer respectively at the recent Kilkenny Handball Board Convention held in Nowlan Park. Gerard is also the Boards IT Officer and looks after the Handball Website http://handball.kilkenny.gaa.ie CHRISTMAS TEA: The now annual Christmas morning refreshments in the Parochial House will take place Mass in Windgap on Christmas Day. The innovative idea organised by the local ladies has proved to be a popular place to meet and greet and has quickly established itself as a highlight forvlocals and visitors on the social calendar. ST STEPHENS DAY WALK: The annual Windgap Development St. Stephens Day Walk takes place from the Club rooms at 11.30am. After taking in the circuit of the amenity walk it hits for open country on a route to be decided by the site of the new playground which should be completed by that time. DEVELOPMENT AGM: All is set for the Annual General Meeting of Windgap Community Development Company that is open to all members of the community. To facilitate everybody, the date has been brought forward again to Thursday 18th, December 2014 in the GAA Club Rooms at 8pm. Nomination forms have been returned for the election of new directors up to closing date of Friday 5th of December listed the following nominees Rachel Kirby Murray, David McCoy, Noel Smyth, Brian O’Rourke, Fr. Nicholas Flavin, PJ Barron, Ann Crowley, Shay Power, Tony Doyle, Julie O’Brien, Marie Hayes. The founding directors are Simon Brophy, Jimmy Walsh, Breda O’Shea, Nicky Hawe, Helen Walsh, John Ryan and Sean Power. CAMOGIE: The under twenty one Camogie side defeated Clara in the "B" Final on Saturday morning at the Kells Road venue. Ahead 1-5 to 0-6 at the break and Alison Bergin goal had her side 2-6 to 0-6 ahead three minutes into the new half. From there on Clara dominated the play and camped in the Windgap half. Despite their superior paly and chances they faced a resolute defence led by Michaela Kenealley that only conceded two points in the following twenty minutes. In the play a series of goal chances, close calls and 65’s were kept out. With the score at 2-6 to 0-8 another Clara point from a penalty had just a goal between the sides with eight minutes to go. In the final minutes a Windgap break away point followed by a goal ensured the title. BAG PACK: The Camogie Club Would Like to thank all the Club Members that help Bag Pack in Supervalu in Callan last Friday. It was a great success and a Big Thank you to Supervalu in Callan for allowing us to do it. CLUB NEWS: Following their win over Slieverue the Galmoy Windgap under twenty one hurling side travelled to Thomastown to play Graiguenamanagh in the semi-final on Sunday afternoon. Playing into the town goal they were ahead 0-7 to 0-6 at the break before they lost out to a last minute goal on a 1-13 to 0-13 score line. HARRIERS MEET: Kilmoganny Harriers hold their annual meet around Tullahought Village in the coming week. CARD GAME: Winners at the Progressive twenty five card game held in Guinans on Friday evening were 1st Eddie Hawe and Laurence Foley. 2nd. Pat Power and Liam Maher. Table Prize Anne Marie Hawe and Dessie Morris. Other winners were Nuala Moore, Laurence Foley, Michael Cunningham, Liam Maher and Adrian Landy. The next game takes place on Friday 9th January at 8.45pm. All are welcome. This was the last Senior Club night of 2014 !! A huge thank you to the Members for their hard work in organising two very successful fundraisers for the Club this year. We wish all our Members and their Families a very happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing everybody again in 2015 !!! A very successful 40x20 juvenile league was run by Kilkenny Handball Board. eight Clubs contested the League with players from under 12 to under 15 involved. There were two groups split north and south. The northern team was Galmoy. Clogh. 2 Laois teams were invited to take part Cullahill and St Brigets Monavea made up the north The southern team was made up with Goresbridge. Windgap. Kilfane and Kells. Windgap were winners in the southern group. The earlier rounds produced some great contests there was great rivalry between the players. This was a great competition giving players the opportunity to test out their skills. The top team in each group would contest the final. Group winners were Galmoy and Windgap The final was played in O'Loughlins There was great support for both teams with a big amount of supporters travelling to cheer on their teams. As the game progressed Gamoy raced in to a 4 point lead before Windgap registered their first point. Windgap continued on their winning ways and led 6 games to 4. Going in to the last game Galmoy needed to pull out all the stops to tie up the game a super display by Galmoy levelled the contest at 6 games each. This meant all scores were added up to separate the teams. Galmoy ended up with 81 points with the winners Windgap ended up with 88 points. The Galmoy team of Matt Delaney, David Sherman,Daniel Hanrahan,Jay McGuire, Padraig Glendon, Jack Hanrahan, Odhran Maloney. Conor Drennan, and Billly Drennan can be proud of their achievement reaching this final was a great achievement. The Windgap team of Sean Purcell, Adam O'Shea, Niall O'Brien, Sean Barron, Jack Doyle, Padraig Foley, Eoin O'Brien, Robert Culleton. and Sean Dunne. After a great contest Windgap emerged victorious on the night winning this keenly contested winter league. Great credit to all the Clubs, Coaches. Parent's and Player's for supporting this League. Also a big thanks to county juvenile officer Billy Love who was ref on the night. Trophies on the night were presented to the players by County Board Chairman Martin Lawlor.
