Windgap Tullahought Notes June 9th

GATHERING: An amazing line up has been published for the gathering in Windgap from the 21st to the 23rd of June. It includes the Kilkenny Gospel Choir, Poetry, a Seisúin, Street Stalls, Art Exhibition, Folklore and Photography Exhibitions, Camogie and Hurling Blitz's Treasure Hunt, Old time dance, Open air mass and  Floating candles. Also included are a number of surprises that include cat' cow's and novelty games. The events take place at the Grotto, Lake,  Amenity area, The Caiseal, Old League House, Tennis Courts, Delaney's, Parochial House, Windgap Community Hall, Slatequarries, GAA Grounds and in many other open spaces and public areas. With former pupils arriving back for a school reunion many visitors have already returned to have a look at the various sites including the Calvary Grotto where a big make over is underway.
WEBSITE: For all the breaking news and the gathering events between the weekly editions of the Kilkenny People visit windgap.ie
SCHOOL: There was disappointment this week for our school teams. The hurling team was beaten in the semi-final by a very strong Tullaroan in Kilmanagh on Monday.  On Wednesday the camogie team was knocked out by Bennettsbridge at the quarter final stage. A big thanks was extended to the sides trainers Simon Brophy, Denis O'Callaghan and Jimmy Purcell (hurling) and Deirdre O'Shea (camogie) for their great work during the year. Thanks were also expressed to the parent drivers for their support.
MIGRATION: In the new local election areas Killamery, Tullahought, Kilmoganny and Boolyglass are moving South to the Piltown Electoral area. The new six seater includes the entire Parish of Windgap for the first time as previously the Tullahought area was moved between the Callan and Piltown electoral areas
HURLING: After a short break Windgap hurlers resume with an all County League quarter final against Barrow Rangers in Windgap on Tuesday evening. Having already met in the League Championship the initiative is with the Barrowsiders who ran out winners in Paulstown earlier in the season.
FOOTBALL: Gerard Purcell travelled with the Kilkenny Junior football side who went down by a single point to Lancashire in Birmingham on Saturday. The next game against Scotland is scheduled for Edinburgh on Saturday next.
CRUMLIN: A five mile sponsor, run, walk or jog, will take place on Wednesday 19th June in aid of Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin. The walk starts from the Marion Hall, Owning at 8.00pm. Refreshments after walk, free raffle for sponsor cards returned on the night. For more info on this event contact: Brenda on 086 3199051.   All are Welcome to participate or support, cards are available from Hearn’s Hardware and Kevin Daltons Butchers in Carrick on Suir and also in Flemings’ Bar in Faugheen and Willie Maloney’s Pub Skough.
PLANNING: The next meeting takes place in the GAA Club Rooms during the week in the lead up to the Gathering that takes place from the 21st to the 23rd of June. All are invited to attend to review the updates on the possible issues in amalgamating the walks, the proposals for the playground and the long term plans and drawings and costs for the Parish Hall
TIDY: Work continued in Tullahought during the week with the erection of a new village sign and also hanging baskets. The activities also saw the planting of bedding plants. Over the weekend the area was littered by drinks cans with a dozen being collected in a one mile stretch
HURLERS DRAW: The annual Hurlers Co-Op Draw has been extended a week and will now take place on Tuesday next 18th of June. This followed a request owing to the arrival of summer that saw many club members busily saving hay and silage whilst others took the opportunity to visit the seaside in the the sweltering conditions. Tickets for the €110,000 prize fund that includes five cards are still available from players and committee members.
l committee members and players or by purchasing on line on the Kilkenny GAA website .
CLUB NEWS: The winning numbers in the weekly lotto were 4, 13, 15, 24 and bonus number 23. Next weeks prize-fund is €5,300
NOTES: Contributors and Clubs are invited to email items for publication with a name and contact number to windgapnotes@gmail.com by Sunday evenings at 6pm
