INVITATION TO TRAINING: On behalf of Kilkenny LEADER Partnership, we are delighted to invite your group to participate in a novel training course for Kilkenny Tidy Towns and community groups. The course has several aspects but biodiversity is at its centre and will help you to take a fresh look at the wildlife and habitats of your area. The course will have 10 sessions and will run from January to May - the aim being to best prepare your group to improve your Tidy Towns entry in 2013 and onward.
The course will also feature a seminar on health and safety for your group, volunteers and other workers. Another aspect of the course is designed to help your group benefit from the new social media such as Facebook, Twitter and to find out how to use the Internet more effectively to raise awareness, inform your members and get your message across.
The course will also look at the tourism potential of your area and how to enter the new Fáilte Ireland Tourism Towns Competition
Finally, media specialists will show you how to go about making and editing video and how to record and edit a DVD.
The course aims to be as practical as possible and will include a number of fieldtrips and outdoor sessions. These will focus on habitats within your area and how best to survey, identify and maximise the value of your area for wildlife. In addition to this, an ecologist will undertake a ‘walkabout’ visit in each of the participating centres to investigate the wildlife potential of your area. You’ll be invited to send a member of your community along on this exercise, which will give you a chance to ask as many wildlife-related questions as you like!
Please find attached a schedule for the upcoming course. The course will be held on Wednesday evenings. We’ll be updating the schedule with venues and other details before our first session which is on Wednesday the 16th of January. We plan to hold this first session in The Heritage Council headquarters at Church Lane, Kilkenny but this venue will be confirmed. We’re hoping to hold the course over a number of different venues so that the burden of travel can be shared for those taking part. If you’ve an area of particular note for wildlife we’d really like to know as we might use this a venue for a fieldtrip or practical work.
Notes and background information will be supplied at each session and we’ll be showing you how your group can download course material and other resources.
We’d be delighted to receive any questions or queries from you between now and the 16th of January. You can email me or call me on the number below. In the meantime, I hope that you have a happy and peaceful Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.
This is a very worthwhile project. Anyone interested should contact members of the Parish Development Group or Rev. Nicholas Flavin as soon as possible as the next meeting of the Group is not until 15th January. The Group agreed to participate at its last meeting.
