WINDGAP.IE has received as request from Paul Bolger, to publish the following:

I am Looking for information about The Family of Michael Keating who was born Killamery in about 1856 and also links to or information about the Keating / Byrne / Brien families from Killamery, County Kilkenny circa 1850 - 1870

(The Michael Keating I am interested in and linked to is NOT to be confused with a Michael Keating of a similar age who also lived in Killamery in 1911 as the rural postman)

Michael Keating had a son Patrick Keating b1874 who is my great grandfather ( through his son Davy Keating from Ballingarry born 1901 and then his daughter Jane Keating - my mother RIP - born 1938 in Ballinataggart )

A brief overview of what I know of the Michael Keating from Killamery family is that In 1873 Michael Keating (born about 1856) married Ellen Byrne (born about 1845) in the Roman Catholic church in Windgap on 3rd Aug 1873.

Michael and Ellen then lived all of their married life in Killamery (they are mentioned in both the 1901 and 1911 Census of Ireland)

more detail on the census links here ....

1901

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kilkenny/Coolaghmore/Killamery/1445549/

and also in 1911

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kilkenny/Coblaghmore/Killamory/563032/

At the time of marrying Michael, Ellen Byrne seems to have already been a young widow ( she was originally married to a Patrick Byrne from just over the border in Tipperary - who died or was killed in about 1867 ).

Ellen had a daughter Bridget Byrne (born about 1866) with Patrick. ( Bridget Byrne never married and is buried with some of the Keating family in the graveyard by Killamery High Cross)

Ellen Byrne's original maiden name was Brien ( its possible she had a brother Michael Brien as he is mentioned as a witness at the wedding to Michael Keating)

Michael Keating and Ellen Byrne (nee Brien) then went on to have the following children all born in Killamery

My great grandfather Patrick Keating born about 1874 who lived in mullinahone and married Margaret Morrissey from Mullinahone in about 1897 (both buried in Killamery)

Johanna Keating born about 1875

Michael Keating born about 1876 (also buried in Killamery)

Mary Keating born about 1877

John Keating born about 1878

Bridget Keating born about 1882

Ellen Keating born about 1887

Lizzie Keating born about 1889 - married a James Murphy and settled in Cork

According to the 1911 census there were also two more children ( as it states that Michael and Ellen had 10 children in total of which 6 survived to 1911 )

So having got this far into the story, I would love to know if anybody can add to the information I have found so far, or if they think that they could be related to me via Keating or Brien families.

You can read more details about what I know so far about the Keating Family at my family tree website http://www.paulbolger.net where I have started the process of documenting and recording the story so far.

Please contact me on paul.bolger @ntlworld.com if you think you may hold the key so information about the families mentioned above, or if you think you may be related.

thanks for any help

kind regards
Paul Bolger

Its possible that Michael O'Brien may be my great great grandfather. ..he was born 1820 and lived in nine mile house just over the Kilkenny border in tipp...then again if ellen wasnt born till 1845 it may be a bit late to be his sister
