PHOENIX RISES AT FORGE SITE:  After weeks of preparatory work the corner stone was laid at the old forge site by master stone mason Seamus Davis on Saturday morning. Seamus was watched by a team of volunteers who will complete the work over the next nine Saturdays. Giving a hand with the final preparations that were carried out with the aid of the street lights were Pat Cooke, Michael Cooke, Eddie Grinsell, Nicky Hawe, Shay Power, Dermot Houlihan, John Ryan, Joe O'Shea, Pat Walsh, Dermot Houlihan, Noel Ryan, Paraic Walsh, Ger Treacy, and Shamie Hennessey. On Saturday the ICA provided the adjacent hall for the teas provided by Helen Hawe, whilst Tom Mackey provided the latest load of stone and Pat and Paraic Walsh provided the model for the reconstruction of the horseshoe shaped arched doorway
MOVING HOUSE: Local residents have found their perception of their place on the planet under two potential changes in recent days. Firstly the new Eircodes for postal deliveries has moved many of their residences into neighbouring counties. Elsewhere the new Department of the Environment proposals to the Boundary Commission are causing concern on the fringes of the county. Led by the Departments Minister Alan Kelly and Junior Ministers Paraic Coffey and Ann Phelan the proposals if passed would see parts of Kilkenny move into Waterford and Carlow. 


LAST BRIDGE GAME: Winners at the final game of the year for Killamery Bridge Club that was held in The Olde House in Killamery were. 1st. Maureen Cantwell and Elizabeth Lanigan. 2nd. Catherine Burke and Noreen Hayes. 3rd. Rita Townsend and Mary Lonergan. 4th. Peggy Vaughan and Elizabeth Murray. 5th. Margaret Lonergan and Helen Lanigan. 6th Pat Arrigan and Elizabeth Walsh, Best Gross: Mary Joy and Josie O’Gorman.


PLAYGROUND VISIT A leader deputation visits the site of the new playground on Tuesday as part of a tour of Leader assisted projects in the county.


LOCAL DERBY: A fine crowd saw Windgap play Piltown in the county Junior League Championship Windgap on Saturday evening. In a low scoring game where both defences were on top the visitors ran out winners by 0-17 to 0-9. The side play Mullinavat in the Southern Championship on Sunday next.

CAMOGIE NEWS: Congratulations to the under eight players that played in Freshford on Saturday at half time in the All-Ireland Senior League game between Kilkenny and Tipperary Senior Camogie Game they were Eleanor Hayes, Ava O'Brien Orla Kennedy Jennifer Saunders Ciara O'Shea Aisling O'Shea Alaina O'Shea Emily Freaney Lauren Enright Mary Kennedy and  Niamh Enright also to their team Managers Michael Saunders and Matthew  O'Shea and a big thank you to their Parents for bringing them, a great day was had by all. 
SENIORS WIN: Described as the game of the weekend for skill and commitment the senior Camogie side defeated The Harps of Laois by a last minute point in the All County League game played on Monday evening in Windgap. Ahead by two points in the final minutes a Harps goal put the visitors a point ahead. Having levelled, a pointed free by Deirdre Purcell on the stroke of time gave the locals the two league points.
GRAVEYARD NASSES: This year’s Graveyard Masses will be celebrated by Fr. Fergal O’Farrell PP on the following dates. They commence in the Slatequarries on F as follows. In Killamery on Wednesday 5th, In Tullahought on Thursday 6th, in Windgap on Friday. COUNTY PLAYERS: Congratulations to Catherine Foley and Denise Gaule and the Kilkenny Senior Camogie Team on topping their Group and they are now in the All-Ireland Semi Final after defeating Tipperary on Saturday. Best of Luck to Niamh Bambrick and Michaela Kenneally who travel to Antrim next week-end with the Intermediate County Team
LONG POC CONTESTANTS: Participants representing their counties at the Provincial Long Poc completion
at the Beann Eadair GAA Club in Howth on Saturday last were local Camogie player Deirdre Purcell at under adult level. Also participating were two juveniles who attended the all-day handball coaching event in Windgap on Friday. They were the Kilkenny under sixteen representative Conor Drennan from Galmoy and Paraic Doheny of the Cullohill Club in County Laois.
