This week we have had a very busy schedule.

3rd 4th 5th and 6th are learning their words and dancing for Peace Proms on the 2nd of March and we hope you all can come!

1st , 2nd  , 3rd and 4th got to go bowling in K-Bowl, McDonagh Junction, Kilkenny for free, as Bowling Ireland are celebrating 50 years of 10 Pin bowling. They all had a great time.

In 5th and 6th class, we all thought we were on Dragons Den last week because a man called Garreth came in and  showed us a computer game he has developed called Dyce, which is a spelling game in English and Irish. It was clever and fun. We gave him lots of help with our constructive criticism.

The school went up to the church on Wednesday the 15th for Ash Wednesday.
I honestly don’t know how we do it all.

Bring on next week!!

On Thursday 7th of February 3rd,4th,5th and 6th classes went to The Hub for Peace Proms practice. It was also the day of the mart so The Hub was packed.
Sharon Dunne who organises Peace Proms introduced herself and called Gearóid Grant, one of Ireland's best conductors, onto the platform. Gearóid went through all the songs with us. Some songs had a few changes to them. There was a choreographer as well. Her name was Rosie. She went through the dance moves to three of the songs with us. the We all got a dvd to practice the choreography at home.
Gearóid said we knew our dance moves very well, but he said we had to work hard on the song words. We have to remember to sing and dance at the same time. On 2nd March, Peace Proms day, the orchestra will be there in The Hub. There will be 120 musicians altogether. In the choir there will be a few hundred children singing their hearts out. We are really looking forward to it.

Jamie Lomax (6th class) and Aisling Lynch (6th class).

Grandparents’ Day was celebrated on the 31st of January in Windgap hall. It was to celebrate what great grandparents we have and they were invited to come down to the parish hall for our servce.

The Failte Team welcomed our guests to the service, asked them to sign the special guest book, recommended good seats for people and had a little chat with them. Our Failte Team were Jack, Robert, Leah and Aisling. It was as packed as the All Ireland final.

We sang songs during the service. Our first song was ‘We sing a song to Brigid’ to celebrate St Brigid’s Day on Friday. Then we sang 'May we love you' while the infants handed up their writing or colouring to Sean and Oscar to put it in our sacred space. Our last song was called ‘For just a little while’ because the lyrics were really suitable and people said the singing was as sweet as birds singing.
There were a lot of readings and poems and I know some grandparents started blushing when they recognised themselves in the poems. We had readings from 3rd and 4th class. Mrs Lowry welcomed parents and grandparents to Grandparents’ Day. Mrs O'Shea told us how important the bond between children and their grandparents is. Patrick and Kyle O'Callaghan’s grandad spoke about what his faith means to him.

The turnout for grandparents day was a success. There was a lot of chit chat going on. People gave praise to the people who did readings or read poems and said they did brilliantly and told the teachers how it was so cleverly coordinated and that they had a great day.

The food down in the hall was lovely. The buns looked really nice and everyone got a bun and a biscuit and a lovely hot cup of tea. It looked like everyone was enjoying themselves.

This week we have a former pupil, Jaime Phelan, at our school on work experience from St Brigid's School in Callan.
On Monday we had no electricity or heating because we had a burst pipe but the nurse came and did eye and hearing tests. On Tuesday the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes went to The Watershed on their first swimming lesson of the year. They were very well behaved.
On Wednesday, the Infants and Sonas went on a winter nature walk and brought their magnifying glasses. They brought back lots of examples of nature. Also on Wednesday, we had a substitute teacher, Ms Doyle, because our teacher was doing office work.
This month's edition of The Primary Planet magazine arrived. It has lots of national and international news. We found out that the Credit Union quiz will be held on February 4th. We have to be on our best behaviour if we want to be picked to represent Windgap NS at the quiz.
