A hotly contested charades game resulted in a distribution of Easter eggs. Next day out is the trip to Avon Rí Adventure center in Wicklow, which is a free trip for members. The pupils of Windgap NS welcomed their grandparents to the Community Hall on Friday, 13th February for Grandparents Day. John & Marie O'Brien told the children about what life was like when they were growing up and gave some very good advice to their young audience. Paddy Walsh played some lively tunes on his accordion and led the children in a rousing rendition of the Rose of Mooncoin. The Parent Association made sure no-one went home without a cup of tea. Thanks to everyone who made the occasion such a happy event for all our pupils. Well done to our 5th class students who painted a lovely Easter banner and to 6th class who held a very enjoyable school assembly on the day of the holidays. They organised a colouring competition for the junior classes and a 'Guess the weight of the Easter Eggs' competition for the senior students. The winners were awarded an Easter Egg each. Also pictured are the winners of 'Student of the Month' and 'Gaeilgeoirí na Míosa' from each classroom. Although there were no eggs for these children, they can look forward to a night off homework when they return from the Easter break. With reporters Cliodhna O'Shea and MArk McCoy Cliodhna O’Shea, 6th Class On the 25th of March at 2:30pm Windgap girls school camogie team played Ballyragget. All the girls were confident but a little anxious. The first half started off amazingly for Windgap with Aoibheann Holden scoring 1 goal and Cliodhna O'Shea scoring 2 goals and 2 points. The temperature was dropping and some girls were frozen from head to toe. Sontae Jackson and Cliodhna O'Shea left the match to go to the boy's match. The second half was tense but extremely cold. Aoibheann scored another goal. In the end the score was 4 goals and 2 points to 0 goals and 0 points. The girls were delighted and ecstatic that they were triumphant. Hurling Match Report
Mark McCoy, 6th Class On March 25th the boys school hurling team had a hurling match. It was an atrociously bleak and wet day. Windgap got off to a great start by scoring two goals inside the first ten minutes. Everyone was chilled to the bone, including referee Mr O`Halloran. Galmoy slowly got back into the match by levelling up the score. It was coming to the end of the first half with Galmoy were winning, but a late goal from Windgap saw them take a meagre lead to the second half. The second half commenced at a fast pace. Windgap were the first to score with another goal from Jack Doyle. Galmoy threatened a goal but an immense performance from the backs held Galmoy off. The substitution of Karl McCoy made and instant impact with him scoring a goal. Windgap were now three goals up and heading for a victory. Shortly afterwards the final whistle was blown by the referee. It was a fantastic victory for Windgap and a disappointing defeat for Galmoy. WINDGAP PARISH NEWSLETTER 22 MARCH 2015
