With potential funding available from State Agencies and the County Council, the big question has arisen as the current thoughts of all involved are will all their hopes, dreams, aspirations, time, research, efforts and the wishes of the community since the first public meeting where over ninety parishioners attended be all wasted if it is not answered shortly!. Tickets are also available from local committee members and players. OASIS OF LIFE: Watching the hive of activity around a small pool of water illustrated the importance of the liquid for so many. After travelling thousands of miles it alone provided the house building material for up to twenty house martins in the dry arid conditions of recent weeks. Accessed over a six bar gate a constant stream of birds flew gracefully in, dropped the air from their wings and began busily mixing the clay and water at the edge of the pool. Not as graceful on terra firma as in flight, they bobbled and balanced and almost tipped over as they busily worked. After collecting sufficient material they immediately made a beeline for residences hundreds of yards away to build homes for nesting. As the day passed the water became muddier in colour as the nests grew taller with the darker damper colour showing the new addition. Similarly attracted over the winter months similar pools became the birth place of tadpoles before the drying easterly winds evaporated the water leaving their oasis of life all dried up. OUT POINTED: The junior "B’s" travelled to Slieverue on Saturday evening with a three to one chance of qualifying for the play off stages of the league, for the first time in a number of years. For them a win, a draw or a small defeat would suffice. On the day short a number of the leaving certificate students they started slowly and rallied well. Approaching the finish the local side saw, the qualifying line back in sight with two goals and a point. However after the final whistle the analysis saw Slieverues 1-20 to 3-6 win move them to the top of the table to take the first qualifying spot. The result left the local side level with the Rower Inistioge on five Points apiece for the second qualifying place. The decision of who was to qualify was then left to the result of the game between the sides, which was also a draw in Inistioge. The next qualifying step saw the scoring difference come in to play. Again it was level, so it was back to the aggregate scores to see who had the best forwards over the entire league campaign. On a quick glance the Rowers poweress in front of goal saw them through as the young local side were left to reflect the outcome if a single point had been prevented or another scored over the four match league campaign. The winners of this game stood to wrest top spot away from the Rower Inistioge, and dependent on the result, the losers could also qualify for the play-offs if their scoring differences was better than others. Slieverue won because they had the greater willingness to work hard for each other. They also enjoyed a distinct advantage in physical power, and experience, with many of their players experiencing Junior Championship fare over a number of years. Slieverue jumped into an early four-point lead which settled them. However the doughty Windgap lads, never ones to shirk a challenge, came storming back, and their corner forward, Seamie Hennessy had the ball in the Slieverue net to give his side some hope of coming out on the right side at the finish of what seemed an uphill proposition from the start. An unimpeded run of eight points by the winners in the middle of the first half really pushed the Slieverue cause into a forlorn cause as far as the trailing Windgap lads were concerned. But again, they are courageous if nothing else, and some points by James Murray, and Hennessy left them trailing by 0-11 to 1-3 at the break. Again gutsy Slieverue had the better of the early second half exchanges, with three unanswered points by Bill Irish, Martin Dowling and free-taker, Ricky Hogan. Windgap hung on to their coat tails in their efforts to stay in touch. Martin Dowling (0-4), Robbie Roche, Cian Tyler, Oliver Mullally slipped over some delightful points, but the evergreen PJ Barron, and JJ Phelan mustered some optimism in the Windgap resolve with goals in the 50th and 58th minutes. It was never going to be sufficient to get their noses in front, and it was surely an impossible ask when Martin Knox slammed home the Slieverue goal in the dying minutes. The better team won, and poor Windgap’s losing margin denied them a place in the play-offs. They needed a deficit of no more than seven points. Scores Slieverue: Martin Dowling (0-6); Ricky Hogan (0-5, frees); Cian Tyler (0-4); Martin Knox (1-1); Bill Irish, David Dowling, Robbie Roche, Oliver Mullally (0-1 each). Windgap: Seamie Hennessy (1-0); Steven Purcell (0-3); PJ.Barron, JJ.Phelan (1-0 each); James Murray (0-2, frees); Peter Hennessy (0-1).
