29/8/2015

Windgap U14 girls pulled of a great victory against their near neighbors Ballyhale on Friday night in Piltown.  It took a full panel with all subs to achieve this historic victory. Ballyhale started brightly with a goal at the beginning of the game and consolidated this with a great display of skills through the first half. Windgap began to exert control close to half time. Ballyhales goal keeper stopped pretty much everything on the night, ensuring a great competitive county Camogie final.

The team representing Windgap including players from neighboring parishes were managed by Pat Foley and Tony Dunphy.   A huge turnout from attended the  match and were present for the presentation of the cup to Captain Laura Foley. Final score was Wingap 3-5 to Ballyhales 2-1.

The Big Black Dot shows the location of the LANA turbine, less than 600m from DunoAir’s T2. Check out https://faugheenagainstpylons.wordpress.com for more information
CAMOGIE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Windgap Senior Camogie girls are playing in the senior championship on Saturday 22nd August in Ballyhale at 7pm.All your support is very welcome.

ALL IRELAND FORECAST: The Hurling Club are organising a Guess the Score competition for Hurling Club Developments. Forecasts cost €2 and cards are available through all players, committees and team managers at all levels. Recent Developments has seen increased spectator facilities, including seating, railings and wheelchair access.

WORLD HANDBALL: In Calgary a great performance in the U13 Doubles one wall final local player Jack Doyle and his partner Brodie Winter from Australia lose out by 1 ace 11-10 in the tie break in the world handball championships final. Jack’s next competition is 40x20 singles on Monday evening where he meets Jack Darcy: Omagh, Co. Tyrone.

LANA WIND DEVELOPMENTS: Residents on both sides of the Kilkenny Tipperary border who are already fighting a proposal for the erection of eight wind turbines by Dunoair got a further shock last week when second Dutch Company lodged plans for another wind farm facility in the same area. The application was submitted by the Lana Wind Development Company to Tipperary Co. Co. on the 10th August for a single 500kW 55m/77.5m high turbine in Rathclarish towns-land with scope for more to follow. The combined developments would see five 126m turbines located on Carrigadoon Hill and a further three 126m turbines on Curraghadobbin Hill with the smaller 77m turbines located in the gap of Rathclarish which divides the two hills.

PERCEPTION CONFIRMED: The second application in as many months confirms fears of concerned residents that if turbines were allowed into the area that was zoned by South Tipperary Council in 2006 as being unsuitable for wind farms that their numbers would increase until the whole area was covered. There has been no public consultation with regard to this second application.

PLANNING PROCESS: While the residents of the surrounding villages are waiting for further developments in the Dunoair planning saga any objections on the Lana Planning Application must be lodged with the Tipperary County Council by the 13th September quoting the application file No. 15600699

TIDY TOWNS: This year’s SuperValu Tidy Towns competition has proved to be as competitive as ever, with a record 862 entries.  Volunteers in communities throughout the country have been busy improving their towns, villages and local environment and will be eagerly anticipating the announcement of the SuperValu Tidy Towns winners at the National awards ceremony on Monday 28th September, in The Helix Theatre in Dublin.

Interest in the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition that has run for fifty seven years and has been a positive element in Irish life continues to amaze with the number of entries exceeding eight hundred for the 5th year in a row.
