Windgap handball players had no luck in their All Ireland finals last night which were held in Cashel. Caoimhe O' Shea and her partner Aoife Walsh came up against a very strong Limerick pair in their U.15 Final. Also Darragh O' Shea and Mark Dowling were defeated  in the U.17 Final.

Darragh and Caoimhe O'Shea from Windgap handball club are representing Kilkenny in this weekends All Irelands 60x30 juvenile finals. Darragh teams up with Mark Dowling from the Mothel handball club in the boys under 17 doubles against Limericks (Shane Murphy & Ben Walsh) . Caoimhe teams up with Aoife Walsh from the Kells handball club in the girls under 15 doubles against Limericks (Cathy Foley & Clodagh Neville) Best of luck to both of them in tomorrows finals. Gardai in Clonmel are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary in Kilcash this morning.

The incident, which occurred shortly after seven this morning, happened when a man broke into a house and then fled through a nearby field.

It's not known if anything was taken.

Nobody was seriously injured in the incident but Gardai are appealing to people for information on a man hitch-hiking in the area, possibly on the main Clonmel to Kilkenny road, the N76.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Clonmel Garda Station on 052 6177640.

Windgap parish area hit another milestone in its development with the launch of the Community alert system, at 10 PM tonight.  

The fully user funded system with the support of the Gardaí was launched in Windgap Community hall just a few minutes ago by chairperson Danny O'Shea. 

A test and information text has been sent out to all members tonight. Its not to late to join up. Please contact any member of the committee for details.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Scoil Shan Nicolas, Windgap National school girls achieved an impressive victory over neighbours Dunnamaggin in the second round of the Cumman na Mbunscoil football competition when they had a great home win at the Windgap GAA venue. Again, the side was under direction of their teachers Mrs. Cadwell and Mrs. Lowry.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: On Wednesday evening week the Minor "B" Hurling league Final played in Clara marked the official closing of the Clara grounds whilst development work begins. In the game where Tullougher Robercon opened the scoring with a point, the amalgamated side was 2-0 to 0-1 ahead at the start of the second quarter after Peter Hennessey and William Phelan goals. After striking four wides in that period the pendulum swung Tulloughers way and within five minutes the side were 1-4 to 2-0 head. After a string of three wides the pendulum swung Galmoy Windgap's way again and two Peter Hennessey points saw the side back ahead by 2-4 to 1-4 five minutes before the break. From there to the half time whistle the sides had three alternative scoring chances each, with both sides showing a sixty six percent strike rate to leave a goal between the sides at 2-6 to 1-6 in favour of Windgap. In an even and well contested third quarter the sides were tied at 2-7 and 2-8 apiece after Tullougher had briefly hit the front only to be pulled back. With just eight minutes to go the erners made a big break for victory when they goaled through to lead 3-8 to 2-8. In an instant reply Niall Walsh, Peter Hennessey and William Phelan had the sides tied 2-11 to 3-8 before substitute David Doyle defied his normal corner and fullback position he goaled to set his side 3-11 to 3-8 in front. In the remaining minutes the Tullougher side attacking in waves searched to no avail for an equaliser. On the night when the senior players from both sides were well held it was the younger members who showed the versatility and hunger to record the sides win. After the game the joint captains Daniel Cashin and Jason Stanley were presented with the competition shield by Bord na nÓg representative Joe Pyke. ZAMBIA CLOTHES COLLECTION: Callan CBS is looking for donations of unwanted clothes, linen, books and shoes. All funds raised will be going towards the Zambia Immersion Project. Three staff members will accompany eleven 5th year students to Zambia next Easter where they will spent time helping in schools, orphanages and hospices. All donations will be greatly appreciated. UNDER EIGHT HURLING: Last Saturday week the Under 8 hurling team travelled to Roanmore to take part in their 18th Annual Charity Hurling Blitz in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation. At the seven a-side competition with teams from Waterford, Kilkenny, Dublin, Wexford, Cork and Tipperary. Windgap were grouped with teams from St Patrick’s of Camolin-Ballycanew, Wexford; St Martin’s of Piercetown, Wexford and the Rower/Inistioge. The lads won their opening match against St Pat’s by a single score. St Martin's narrowly beat them in the second match. Their final match against the Rower/Inistioge was a cracker with the Rower keeper pulling off a number of fine saves to prevent Windgap from winning the match. The squad included Jack O’Shea, James Purcell, Ronan O’Brien, Shane Lomax, Michael Freaney, Matej Dullard, Noah O’Shea, Evan Doyle, Eoin O’Shea, Cian O’Rourke, Darragh Doyle, Conor Doyle, George Culleton and Paddy Fleming. (Jack Treacy was the only member of the group missing on the day). Former president of the GAA, Sean Kelly presented the team with medals on the day and they all enjoyed some light refreshments afterwards. 
WALKING ON THE ONE PATH: On Thursday last Shay Powers crew, the local TÚS worker and volunteers in the village in Windgap carried out an amount of work. The main project was the creation of an eighty-metre pathway linking the car park at the lake to the amenity walk. It in turn creates two loop walks from the lake into the amenity area and back via the front of the school or the longer trip taking in the local sportsfield and its amenities. 
PLAYGROUND PLANS: The long journey to provide a playground in the locality took a step forward when the Planning Application Notice was posted recently. Part of a many-pronged project it involves a lease of the ground being concluded, grant funding being sought and supporting finance being raised.
TABLET OF STONE: The next local project involves the re-location of the newly carved stone with the words of local poet Dai Walsh's verse celebrating the riches of the Grotto overlooking the village and the surrounding countryside

CHAMPIONSHIP D DAY: Saturday was championship D Day for both the Hurling and Camogie Clubs adult sides when the Senior Camogie side played host to the Rower Inistioge at midday in Windgap and the Junior Hurlers played championship favourites Lisdowney in Palmerstown at 4.30pm. A win for both sides would have seen them qualify for their respective semi finals with a County semi-final appearance in Nowlan Park for the Hurlers and a clash with Thomastown for the ladies. However it was not to be with the hurlers performing well before two late Lisdowney goals put a lobsided appearance on the scoreboard. In the Camogie game the side with a substantial portion of the play never had the same hunger or will to win as the Intermediate champions of 2012.
GALMOY WINDGAP: At underage level the refixed Galmoy Windgap minor hurling championship tie with Graigueballycallan takes place on the weekend of 28th of September.
BRONZE MEDAL RETAINED: With three additional points Tullahought with a adjudicators marking of 301 broke the 300 points barrier for the first when the 2013 results were announced at the National Super Value Tidy Towns Awards ceremony in the Helix on Monday last. In addition to the national Award the community secured the award for Kilkenny's tidiest village and was in third place in the county behind Kilkenny City and just a point behind Inistioge. Representing the community at the event were Richard Walsh, Eamon Doyle and Mary Egan. A meeting of the group to review the results will take place in Tullahought Community Centre at 8pm and all are welcome. 
CAMOGIE ALL IRELAND: The local club ran a full size bus to Croke Park on Sunday week to support the Kilkenny Senior Camogie side that played Galway in the All Ireland Final. They were joined by a large number of locals who travelled up on the Saturday evening and Sunday to support local players Denise Gaule who lined out at full forward and panel member Niamh Bambrick.

HURLING IN WICKLOW: Former Club player Thomas Enright lined out at corner back for Greystones when they regained the county Junior title they last held in 2010. In the game they defeated Avondale in the county Grounds in Aughrim. 
HANDBALL FINALISTS: In the boys U17 Doubles Windgap's Darragh O'Shea & Mark Dowling (Mothel) defeated Stanley Harte and Patrick Fox from Sligo 21-8, 21-12 in their All Ireland semi Final. They now face Shane Murphy & Ben Walsh from Limerick. GU15D: Caoimhe O'Shea and Aoife Walsh (Kells) got a walkover from Shannon Cummins & Emily Sweeney (Mayo) in the All Ireland Semi Final. They now face Cathy Foley and Clodagh Neville from Limerick in the All Ireland Final. Both finals will be held on week ending 28-29 September. 
WALK TALL: The walking group continues each Saturday morning where they meet at the lake in Windgap at 9.30am. The plan for the next three weeks is Saturday 28th September Carraigmoclear, Saturday 5th October Bearna Breac and all are welcome. 
POTTERY CLASSES: Adult Pottery classes commence in Camphill Kyle, on Tuesday 24th and run for eight weeks from 7:30-9:30pm. The courses cost € 100 (all materials included). In addition Children's Classes (age 6-12), start on Wednesday 25th of September and run for 5 weeks from 6pm-7pm, costing € 40 (all materials included). CAMOGIE: There was a hugely disappointing turnout by the Windgap Senior panel for the final challenge game in the build up for Saturdays championship tie when they played St. Anne's of Waterford under lights in the St. Mollerans pitch in Carrickbeg on Friday evening. Saving the clubs blushes were an amalgamation of retired players, the old reliables and some young aspiring players, hoping to get a chance to make their Senior championship debut. On the evening the side was Kathleen Purcell, Julie Walsh, Clare Grace, Aisling Foley, Jane Walker Aisling Cody, Joanne Cody, Catherine Foley, Sarah Grace and Annie Phelan.
