In their first match they came back from 4 goals to one down to draw level 4-0 to 4-0. In their second match they defeated Midleton by a scoreline of 5-1 to 3-0 and in their final match they lost narrowly 1-0 to 0-0 despite having a goal disallowed. All in all they had a wonderful day out hurling in beautiful sunshine and they went home happy having scored 9 goals in three matches. Well done to Roanmore GAA club for running another successful blitz with more than 100 teams taking part on the day.
U-16 Roinn B Championship Semi Final 20-9-2014 Galmoy/Windgap 3-16 Lisdowney 1-14 Galmoy/Windgap advanced to the final of the Roinn B U-16 Championship after this win over Lisdowney in a cracking semi final at Freshford on Saturday last. These were two very evenly matched teams with never more than a puck of a ball between them right up the last five minutes. The combined forces began in whirlwind fashion and led 0-4 to 0-1 after six minutes. James Culleton opened their account courtesy of an Oisín Phelan pass while Phelan himself added another within seconds. Lisdowney’s best player, Brian Kavanagh ,opened from play before the opposite number eleven,Brandan Phelan, fielded a puckout and pointed after a good solo run. Galmoy/Windgap then hit three wides before the lively Oisín Phelan added his second minor. Lisdowney midfielder Niall Brennan fielded a great ball at midfield and struck an inspiring point in the 7th minute. We were then treated to some excellent goalkeeping at both ends. Firstly,Shane Cullen stopped two in a row,the first from Gary O Sullivan and the second from Brian Kavanagh as Lisdowney were twice denied. At the other end,Lisdowney goal keeper,David O Carroll ,then brought off a good save from Conor Drennan.Drennan soon pointed thanks to a Conor Grace pass. Brian Kavanagh was really dominant at centre forward ,forcing Galmoy/Windgap to bring Brandan Phelan back in to defence to police the Lisdowney attack leader. He pointed three frees and one from play to put Lisdowney ahead 0-6 to 0-5 at the end of the first quarter. A feature of this clash was that both sides enjoyed periods of dominance and after the Lisdowney resurgence,Galmoy/Windgap stepped up the pace to hit four points in succession.Conor Drennan hit the first from a free won by Oisín Phelan.Jack Delaney, now at centre forward, hit one on the run before Drennan & Oisín Phelan hit one apiece.Gary O Sullivan showed some tremendous bursts of speed at various stages for Lisdowney and probably should have hit the scoreboard a few more times. He did strike a sweet point in the 23rd minute followed by a great Brian Kavanagh point, at the end of a piercing solo, to arrest the slide,0-9 to 0-8. Conor Drennan then won a free and pointed before Liam Dunphy and Conor Grace exchanged strikes to leave Galmoy/Windgap ahead 0-11 to 0-9 at half time.Jack Hayes had to replace Aidan Culleton at the break due to a recurrence of a thumb injury at the interval for the winners. Galmoy/Windgap began the second half with the same determination that they had displayed in the opener. After registering two wides, they raised the first green flag of the day when Evan Morrisey hit an unstoppable roofer after receiving a pass from Patrick O Callaghan. Two minutes later Patrick Grace, who had a solid game all through, won a puckout and sent an intelligent low ball in to Conor Drennan.Drennan collected ,turned and struck another to the Lisdowney net.He added a free to set up a 2-12 to 0-9 lead. But once again Lisdowney replied.Niall Brennan won a free which Brian Kavanagh pointed.Kavanagh added another free before they hit a goal of their own.Kavanagh crossed a good ball which was added to by Gary O Sullivan and after a goalmouth tussle,Liam Dunphy sent a screamer to the net to leave four points between the sides.Conor Grace and Oisín Phelan each pointed from play only for Kavanagh to reply from two frees. He was unerring from frees throughout.Niall Brennan hit his second Lisdowney point in the 55th minute to leave it 2-14 to 1-14 and all to play for. However, this proved to be Lisdowney’s last score, as Galmoy/Windgap powered up the finishing straight.Substitute Patrick Doyle pulled on a Conor Grace cross to seal victory and a place in the final against Graigue Ballycallan. The full back line of Luke Ward,Ryan Murphy and Sean Phelan were excellent throughout for the winners while apart from Brian Kavanagh,Lisdowney had other hard triers in Kevin O Sullivan,Niall Brennan and Gary O Sullivan. This weekend is concerned with the question of how we can be supported and inspired by monastic spirituality while living outside of the walls of a monastery. It will explore how different, distinctive aspects of Cistercian monasticism can enrich our personal encounter with Jesus Christ and lead to our homes becoming places of sanctuary and spiritual renewal. The value of creating a spiritual place, being stable there and then offering hospitality and spiritual support to others will be recurring themes. From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, this weekend of prayer, presentations and group reflection will also give the opportunity to be present at the Divine Office of the Liturgy of the Hours at Mount St. Joseph Abbey. It will involve the participation of monks from this Abbey and from those involved with the initiative of Integritas, a domestic centre of Christian spirituality, Ennisnag, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny (www.integritas.ie). In order to reserve a place, please contact Eileen from Monday to Friday, between 2.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. at 0505-25600. A reservation can also be made by e-mail to [email protected]. The cost of the weekend per person is €140.00.
