It all concludes at 9pm with traditional music at Powers, Tullahought and Delaney’s of the Slatequarries. For all events Car parking is available and all areas are Wheelchair accessible. All events are suitable for children and everyone is welcome to attend. CAMOGIE ALL IRELAND: Denise Gaule a member of the local senior side lined out at full forward when Kilkenny defeated Cork in the All Ireland Senior Camogie semi-final in Thurles on Saturday. On the day was amongst the side’s scorers and a chief tormentor of the Cork defence in their one point win. The side play Galway in the final in Croke Park in four weeks time. Denise who started her Camogie career with O’Loughlins is the daughter of Windgap club official Joan and Windgap senior team trainer Denny. Also appearing on the Clár for the day was Caoimhe O’Shea who was part of the Kilkenny Relay solo rum team at under sixteen level who came fourth in the ten county competition. RICHIE GOES VIRAL: The now legendary local farmer Richard O'Gorman has gone viral across the World Wide Web with a video master class on "How to cook the perfect steak". Having being viewed almost 100,000 times, Richie is to be seen in his entire splendour frying up a rump from the “Black Cattle” with some red onions added for flavour. Showing his previously unknown culinary skills, he outlines the process to seal in the flavour as he relates the mouth watering story of fillets and sirloin and the history and cost of the Roundy bullocks. Another of Richie’s passions can be seen in the background on the kitchen wall, as an unidentified hurling team hangs proudly amongst kitchen utensils and cooking ingredients. Based in Curraghmore Richie’s previously featured on a TV commercial promoting, "Aldi Ireland - Angus Beef" that also displayed the beautiful scenery of the area stretching away to Slievenamon. To visit the video go to “High Steaks by Richard O’Gorman”. HURLING SEMI FINALS; Windgap Junior B side qualified for a Southern semi-final when they defeated Carrickshock in the Callan CBS grounds on Sunday morning. After a good start the side led by 0-14 to 0-4 at the break with seven players featuring on the score sheet. On the resumption a Paul Comerford cross finished by Paraic Walsh set the side up for a 1-19 to 1-6 victory with substitute Paul McKenna adding his name to the scoring list in a fine team display. The winners are now in a draw for a semi final opponent with Graiguenamanagh Slieverue, and the winners of John Lockes. See Barrie Henriques match report. On the coming weekend the locals play John Lockes in the Southern Junior semi final at a time and venue to be announced. GALMOY WINDGAP: Heartbreak was all too evident at the final whistle in Ballyraggett on Wednesday evening as city side Dicksboro’s under sixteen snatched the winning goal well into injury time to give their side a single point 4-6 to 1-14 victory. Ahead 1-8 to 0-2 at the break Galmoy Windgap had extended the lead to ten points on two occasions when they led 1-10 to 0-2. At a later stage they were well in control at 1-13 to 1-3 with twenty minutes to play. After sweeping positional changes the city side swept into the game and reduced the lead to 1-14 to 2-5. From there to the end they dominated adding 2-1 without reply to shatter the dreams of the supporters, mentors and players of the combined side. In the minor grade the side play Graigueballycallan in the first round. PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: A combined approach is hoped for, as the aspirations of the parishioners short listed at a public meeting a year ago, will be aired once again at the next Planning for the Future meeting which will be held in the Club Rooms on Tuesday next 27th August. With the work of the many volunteers having transformed the heart of the social and sporting heart of the parish in recent times, it is hoped that the efforts that saw the lake restored and maintained, the community centre painted, the amenity walk built and the provision of an autistic unit and the commencement of the school extension will be ongoing. Central to all of the locations is the unused area that the people would like to be designated the site for the community playground. Its potential development would eventually lead the way to the integration of all the recreational areas, walks and amenities in the village. MEMORIAL WALK: A walk to the summit of Slievenamon will take place on Sunday 25th of August at 2pm in memory of the late Joe Grincell and in appreciation of the excellent work carried out by the Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue. SENIOR CAMOGIE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: Having defeated Muckalee in the All County League semi-final in Windgap on Monday evening Windgap's senior Camogie side travelled to Piltown on Wednesday evening for a final clash with old rivals Thomastown. At the venue they captured their first ever title at Senior level when they defeated Thomastown by 3-9 to 1-9. After a very slow start, the side found themselves 1-1 to 0-0 down after just four minutes following a Niamh Donnelly point and an opportune goal, after two of the local sides backs collided. Two minutes later Niamh Phelan opened the Windgap account with a point and then added a second from far out after nine minutes. Another from her sister Anne Marie's free a minute later left just a point between the sides. Almost immediately, a similar score for Thomastown stretched their lead back to two. Three successive Windgap wides bringing their total to six, were followed by another Anne Marie Phelan point to leave the minimum between the sides. Working on a minimum amount of the ball and breakaways Thomastown added another two points to go a goal ahead. Having dominated the first half the local side eventually overcome the three point deficit with points from Nicky Moore, Joanne Cody and Anne Marie Phelan to tie the game 0-7 to 1-4 at the interval Two quick goals in three minutes after the break the first by Catherine Foley and then a kicked effort by Joanne Cody gave the side some breathing space. Ten minutes later a Thomastown goal from a twenty one yard free rocked the side before Ann Marie struck a similar effort two minutes later to restore Windgap's six point lead. Over the final quarter four points were shared as Windgap's Catherine Foley and Anne Marie Phelan were on target before Thomastown replied with similar scores. During the final ten minutes the nerves of the fine band of local supporters were stretched, and prayers were uttered as a sustained Thomastown rallies saw the defence under extreme pressure of conceding further goals. In the growing dusk as the play ran well into injury time, the game was akin to a table tennis game played within the forty yards in front of the Windgap goal as the ball ping ponged in and out as shots were blocked retaken and parried again. At the final whistle, euphoria erupted as the clubs twenty three year crusade yielded the sides first senior award in the form of the county's second most prestigious senior competition. The historic team was Amanda Power. Julie Walsh, Michaela Kenneally, Clare Grace, Deirdre Purcell, Elaine O'Shea, Eimear Moylan, Suzie Dunphy, Phena Heffernan, Niamh Phelan, Ann-Marie Phelan, Nicola Moore, Terri Mackey, Catherine Foley, Joanne Cody, Subs: Gemma Long, Ciara Molloy, Aisling Cody, Emily Murphy, Aisling Foley, Ali Bergin, Sarah Grace. Scorers: Ann-Marie Phelan 1-4, Nicola Moore 0-1, Catherine Foley 1-1, Joanne Cody 1-1, Niamh Phelan 0-2: Referee Ray Byrne (Glenmore). The sides mentors were Pat Walsh, Dinny Gaule and John Bergin. DISSAPOINTING FARE: Having won the first senior title ever in Camogie, the jubilation of the team and supporters was badly dampened when no one was available to present the county trophy. Believing that someone was gone to the boot of a car to collect it, the side awaited on the field into the growing darkness for the achievement to be acknowledged. However it was a no show with no presenter and no trophy to be presented.. In the end it was left to the generous response of Thomastown centre back Anna Farrell and one of her sides mentors to extend the congratulations of the Camogie fraternity to the victorious side. MEMORIAL WALK: A walk to the summit of Slievenamon will take place on Sunday 25th of August at 2pm to mark the memory and months mind of the late Joe Grincell and also in appreciation of the excellent work carried out by the Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue. Sponsorship cards are available from Eddie Grincell Tel no. 087 2539382. SEMI FINAL WIN: Windgap Senior Camogie team qualified for the All County League final when they defeated Muckalee at home on Monday evening. Following a lack lustre first half in which the scores were tied 0-4 at the break and again at 0-5 ten minutes into the second half the game eventually livened up with seven unanswered home points that saw the home side lead 0-12 to 0-5 after fifty two minutes. Following a point from Katie Nolan one of the stars and chief scorer of the Muckalee side, Windgap finished with another brace to run out 0-14 to 0-6 winners. With both sides short their intercounty stars the younger visitors displayed their skills with the local ladies making the best of their opportunities to take a place on the side for the forthcoming championship. The local side was Amanda Power, Julie Walsh, Michaela Keneally, Clare Grace, Deirdre Purcell, Elaine O'Shea, Emer Moylan, Anne Marie Phelan, Suzie Dunphy, Fiona Heffernan, Terri Mackey, Anne Marie Phelan, Niamh Phelan, Joanne Cody, Catherine Foley Scorers were Anne Marie Phelan (0-7) 0-4 frees, Niamh Phelan (0-2), Joanne Cody (0-2), Catherine Foley (0-2) Nicky Moore (0-1) The side was looked after by Denny Gaule and John Bergin with Mollie Walsh supplying refreshing drinks whilst Christy Whelan recorded the scores. The former club and county Camogie and Football star now lines out with KK (Kingdom Kerry) Gaels ladies football side and was joined by another former holidaying player Gillian Moore who now plays her Camogie in Dublin. To deliver them as in all projects, the exact costs, budgeting plans and agreed timelines will be required. Amongst the many suggestions received recently were the renting of the Parochial House to provide an additional family in the area. In return it could support the numbers at the local school, with the income defraying the renovation costs. In addition its regular use would negate the ongoing heating and maintenance costs for the parish. The meeting will be held in the clubrooms on Tuesday 27th August at 8.00pm and all are welcome as usual BRIDGE RESULTS: Outstanding results from the Killamery Bridge club game in the Auld House in Killamery are 1st.
