HERITAGE WEEK IN TULLAHOUGHT: Heritage week bunting bedecked the village this weekend in preparation for the annual Heritage Week commences in Tullahought on Friday next. SCHOOL REUNION: The opening event takes place at 7.30pm with Mass in Tullahought Church to celebrate the reunion of Kilmacoliver School. This will be followed by the official opening of Heritage week-end, Photographic Exhibition and unveiling of commemorative lectern at Kilmacoliver Community Centre by Ms Siobhan Talbot, Group Managing Director, (designate) Glanbia and former past pupil Kilmacoliver School. 9.30pm: Afterwards there will be a Traditional Music session, song and storytelling in Tullahought Community Centre. On Saturday 24th August a Photographic Exhibition of old photos. takes place from 2pm to 10pm. At 8pm a Lecture by Dr. Willie Nolan entitled ‘Political Exiles from Ireland post 1848 rebellion with particular reference to Tipperary and Kilkenny will take place in Tullahought Community Centre. At 10pm it will be followed by a Traditional Music session in Power’s of Tullahought. On Sunday 25th August the line starts at 11am with the U12’s Mike Williams Memorial Camogie and Hurling Blitzes in Tullahought Sports field. It is followed from 1pm – 5pm by the Photographic Exhibition continues in Tullahought Community Centre. At 2.00pm: the agenda features Traditional Craft Demonstrations – knitting and embroidery expertise, butter making all in Tullahought Community Centre. It is then followed by a Demonstration and talk on restoration of wrought iron gates in old forge, by Mr. Shem Caulfield. This event is a Heritage Council sponsored project. 3pm: It is then followed by a Guided tour of Knockroe Passage Tomb by Dr. Muiris O’Sullivan. It all concludes at 9pm with traditional music at Powers, Tullahought and Delaney’s of the Slatequarries. For all events Car parking is available and all areas are Wheelchair accessible. All events are suitable for children and everyone is welcome to attend. CAMOGIE ALL IRELAND: Denise Gaule a member of the local senior side lined out at full forward when Kilkenny defeated Cork in the All Ireland Senior Camogie semi-final in Thurles on Saturday. On the day was amongst the side’s scorers and a chief tormentor of the Cork defence in their one point win. The side play Galway in the final in Croke Park in four weeks time. Denise who started her Camogie career with O’Loughlins is the daughter of Windgap club official Joan and Windgap senior team trainer Denny. Also appearing on the Clár for the day was Caoimhe O’Shea who was part of the Kilkenny Relay solo rum team at under sixteen level who came fourth in the ten county competition. RICHIE GOES VIRAL: The now legendary local farmer Richard O'Gorman has gone viral across the World Wide Web with a video master class on "How to cook the perfect steak". Having being viewed almost 100,000 times, Richie is to be seen in his entire splendour frying up a rump from the “Black Cattle” with some red onions added for flavour. Showing his previously unknown culinary skills, he outlines the process to seal in the flavour as he relates the mouth watering story of fillets and sirloin and the history and cost of the Roundy bullocks. Another of Richie’s passions can be seen in the background on the kitchen wall, as an unidentified hurling team hangs proudly amongst kitchen utensils and cooking ingredients. Based in Curraghmore Richie’s previously featured on a TV commercial promoting, "Aldi Ireland - Angus Beef" that also displayed the beautiful scenery of the area stretching away to Slievenamon. HURLING SEMI FINALS; Windgap Junior B side qualified for a Southern semi-final when they defeated Carrickshock in the Callan CBS grounds on Sunday morning. After a good start the side led by 0-14 to 0-4 at the break with seven players featuring on the score sheet. On the resumption a Paul Comerford cross finished by Paraic Walsh set the side up for a 1-19 to 1-6 victory with substitute Paul McKenna adding his name to the scoring list in a fine team display. The winners are now in a draw for a semi final opponent with Graiguenamanagh Slieverue, and the winners of John Lockes. See Barrie Henriques match report. On the coming weekend the locals play John Lockes in the Southern Junior semi final at a time and venue to be announced. GALMOY WINDGAP: Heartbreak was all too evident at the final whistle in Ballyraggett on Wednesday evening as city side Dicksboro’s under sixteen snatched the winning goal well into injury time to give their side a single point 4-6 to 1-14 victory. Ahead 1-8 to 0-2 at the break Galmoy Windgap had extended the lead to ten points on two occasions when they led 1-10 to 0-2. At a later stage they were well in control at 1-13 to 1-3 with twenty minutes to play. After sweeping positional changes the city side swept into the game and reduced the lead to 1-14 to 2-5. From there to the end they dominated adding 2-1 without reply to shatter the dreams of the supporters, mentors and players of the combined side. In the minor grade the side play Graigueballycallan in the first round. PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: A combined approach is hoped for, as the aspirations of the parishioners short listed at a public meeting a year ago, will be aired once again at the next Planning for the Future meeting which will be held in the Club Rooms on Tuesday next 27th August. With the work of the many volunteers having transformed the heart of the social and sporting heart of the parish in recent times, it is hoped that the efforts that saw the lake restored and maintained, the community centre painted, the amenity walk built and the provision of an autistic unit and the commencement of the school extension will be ongoing. Central to all of the locations is the unused area that the people would like to be designated the site for the community playground. Its potential development would eventually lead the way to the integration of all the recreational areas, walks and amenities in the village. MEMORIAL WALK: A walk to the summit of Slievenamon will take place on Sunday 25th of August at 2pm in memory of the late Joe Grincell and in appreciation of the excellent work carried out by the Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue. Leaving from Kilcash at 2pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards. All donations will go directly to Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue. The well supported event had become a hardy annual on the clubs social and fundraising calendar. The agenda included the creation of a village workplan, correspondence from Kilkenny Leader Partnership and the signing off of the annual accounts. GARDEN PARTY: Prize-winners at the recent Garden party held in and of Calcutta relief in Helen and Nicky Hawes were Nellie Gough Dublin and Kilmacow, Noreen Dowling, Helen Lawler, Edinburgh and Callan, Betty Cuddihy, Olive Hawe, Leo Conalty, Judith Phelan, Imelda Carolan, Margaret Foley, Margaret Grace, Sister Agnes Ryan and Donal Kenneally.
