
ELECTRICAL RECYCLING - WEEE Ireland are holding a collection day for unwanted electrical goods on this Thursday 11th April from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00noon. The collection area is in the carpark at the lake in Windgap. Any household items with a plug or a battery are acceptable for collection and disposal. Items must be brought to the collection area at the appointed time. As a result items left there before or after the designated time will be treated as illegal dumping.
CAMOGIE - On Thursday evening in the Féile competition in Mooncoin. Windgap and Mooncoin played a thrilling game that included extra time and a Golden goal play off. After the thrills spills and excitement it was a well done all-round to the local under fourteen side who won the first round match after Clare Kirwan got a long range golden goal to win. In the Senior All County League Windgap played Thomastown on a bitterly cold and windswept Windgap on Sunday at morning. Playing with the wind the home side opened with a Niamh Phelan point and led 1-3 to 0-1 at the break. On the resumption the efforts of strong defence led by Elaine O’Shea and with Laura Walker in brilliant form in goal thwarted the visitors best attempts. At referee Paschal Connolly’s final whistle the home side had hung on for an unexpected win on a 1-5 to 0-3 scoreline.

HANDBALL FINAL - The all Windgap junior doubles final played in Windgap was a closely contested final. In it Cian Ryan and Shane Walsh won the first game by the narrowest of margins and the second game was much the same as Sean Foley and Michael Power came out on top. The third game was level on four occasions but Cian Ryan and Shane Walsh pulled away at the end to gain their first County Junior title. All four line out on the current junior hurling side
GALMOY WINDGAP - The minors made a long trip to Coon when they travelled to play St. Martins on Monday evening. In their minor hurling league tie, they recorded a fine win over the home side DEVELOPMENT NEWS - The compilation of the annual accounts has brought to a close the activities of the local Community Development Committee for another year. Set up to improve the structural facilities in the area, the creation of the amenity area and walkway adjacent to the Lake and Hurling pitch remains its flagship project.
