PAINTING THE TOWN RED AND HURLERS WIN TOO:
PAINTING THE TOWN RED: Saturday mornings text to a "Painting Party" from noon till late in Windgap Hall to "Let's Paint the Town Red" came as result of a suggestion at the Planning for the Future Meeting held in the GAA Club rooms on Tuesday evening. Attended by thirty volunteers that heard and discussed the many sub committee reports and updates. At it many other suggestions were added as the next steps are to be teased out. The call led to an instant plan of action being put in place to brighten up the Parish Hall with a lick of paint for Christmas. Its invitation "if you have a spare hour come to Windgap Hall from noon till late and bring along your roller or brush" attracted a fine turnout at short notice on a winters day. The early arrivals saw the benefits of the major clean up carried out the previous day in preparation and were able to get straight into the painting task. At the end of the day all of the walls had got a new look and the doors and skirting boards an undercoat. During the days activities the volunteers were well nourished by the supplies provided by Tess Cross. As the final pieces were being completed and a tidy up was done, plans were made for the completion of the work around the schedules of the indoor hurling, badminton training and the Water group scheme meeting during the week. The Hall now bright and airy with its new linen tinted coat will see the work schedule continue during the week with a big push to finish it on Saturday. Following the work the organisers have received numerous offers of help and the provision of scaffolding to assist the painting of the ceiling. For all interested in assisting please contact the project co-ordinators Kate Moloney and Tess Cross. One of many initiatives from the Planning for the Future meetings, a comment made that we "have come a long way in three months" was the reality to be seen in the Hall late on Saturday evening. SHIELD FINAL WIN: Galmoy Windgap recorded a fine win over St. Fiacre’s in the under twenty one hurling JJ Kavanagh Southern Shield final played in Bennettsbridge at two o'clock on Saturday. Played in fine conditions the game had some great passages of play as the Kilkenny's North-South combination led the South-Eastern combination by 0-8 to 0-6 at the break. After an early second half goal put Galmoy Windgap five points ahead the Barrowsiders replied with a similar score to reduce the lead back to two points. After some end to end play a series of changes saw the local side net a second goal as they built up a match winning lead. From there to the end St. Fiacre's forced a number of sixty fives and a fine save before Galmoy Windgap ran out 2-11 to 1-7 winners. The unique game that saw two Northern clubs joined with two Southern clubs competing in a Southern final may become a more a more common feature in times to come as the rural clubs face recessional driven de-population. The rare win came for the side followed a minor shield win over O'Loughlins in Thomastown three years ago. The result was complimented from near and far "as well deserved for the effort both clubs players, officials and parents put in". Now in operation at underage levels for the sixth year, round trips of one hundred kilometres or sixty miles across the numerous cross country routes that link both clubs grounds have become the norm. CONCERT IN ST. MARY'S IN KELLS: A light hearted concert of seasonal readings and music featuring George Candler and HX Brass, Dublin will take place in St Mary's Church, Kells on Saturday 1st December at 8pm in aid of The Irish Society for Autism and the Kells Group of Parishes. Admission: €10. Family ticket: €20. Student €5
DEFRIBILATOR NEWS: The third training course for defibrillator users took place on Wednesday evening in Tullahought Community Centre. The fourth and final training course is now booked out. When it is completed it is hoped to have over fifty personnel trained in the area. Whilst the location details and signage for the sites and the connection of power supplies is being finalised the defibrillators are available in the residences of Richard, Joanne Walsh, Tullahought, Richard (087-9963355) and Joanne (087-6826680. L’ARCHE CHRISTMAS FAIR: The annual Larche Christmas fair takes place on Sunday next December 2nd in the larche Workshop Fair Green lane callan from 11.30 to 5pm. Cards, Candles, Weaving, Pottery, Jams, Garden Produce, Kids Room, Santy, Cake Stand and much more for all the family
THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BAZAAR will be held in Windgap Community Centre on Sunday 9th December at 2.00 p.m. All usual events will take place. As in previous years Christmas Cakes are a speciality at Windgap Bazaar so the usual appeal is being made for cakes for icing. Raffle tickets will be distributed to all houses over the next few weeks.
MULLINAHONE CHOIR: Mullinahone parish choir will hold a celebration of Christmas carols and songs on Sunday December 9th at 7pm in St Michael's church, Mullinahone. Admission is free and all are welcome..

CAMERA CLUB: Carrick Camera Club is a photography club catering for all levels of photographer from beginner to professional based in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary. The club meets once a fortnight in the Carraig Hotel. Anne Howard, vice chairwoman of the club had an image of hers exhibited in Getty Images Gallery in London's' West End in September and won the Nikon In-Frame photo of the month competition in January 2012 where the theme was New Beginnings. The image was titled New Years' Eve Arrival and captured the warm connection between a mother and calf shortly after the birth of the calf. Anne's' winning image is currently on display in the library in Carrick-on-Suir where Anne has teamed up with other women from Carrick Camera Club in an exhibition of their work. The exhibition is titled 'Women in Focus - an exhibition of local women photographers'. The official launch will be on Thursday, November the 29th at 7.00pm and will run until early next year. All are welcome to attend. New members are always welcome to join Carrick Camera Club.

SENIOR CITZENS PARTY: Droichead Family Resource Centre is hosting a Senior Citizens Christmas Party on Sunday, the 9th of December at 12.30pm in Droichead Family Resource Centre, The Friary, Callan. This is a FREE event for all the older folk from Callan and the surrounding area.
