HANDBALLERS TO REVIEW SUCCESSFUL YEAR: The AGM of Windgap Handball Club will be held in the Handball Alley on Thursday the 1st of November at 8 pm. The event will review the clubs progress from the youngest underage player’s right through to World Championship levels. All are welcome.
HALLOWEN FAMILY QUIZ: Windgap Camogie Club are holding a Halloween Family Quiz on Wednesday week 31st October in St Leonard's Hall, Dunnamaggin at 8pm with prizes for the best Halloween costumes on the night. The cost per team is €20 per table.
PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: Work continues amongst the various subcommittees set up to discuss and plan a number of topics in the area. After their initial consultations, site visitations and the creation of reports they will then report back to a full meeting of the Planning for the future committee in the GAA Club at 8pm on Tuesday the 20th of November.
CAMOGIE FINAL: The under twenty-one qualified for the final when they overcame Gowran in the semi final in Windgap on Sunday. Ahead at the break they eventually ran out 3-7 to 0-9 winners. They now play Thomastown in the final in two weeks time.
UNDER TWENTY-ONE: Galmoy/Windgap travel to Piltown on Sunday morning at 10.30am their 2102 championship tie with Carrickshock.
WILDLIFE HABITATS: Missing since the start of the breeding season, the cool snap has seen the return of the now almost pet pheasants to the local farmyards and residencies in recent days. Their arrival has co-incided wire the first major leave falls of the Autumn. In addition their food supply is affected by the ongoing loss of natural habitat as field sizes are enlarged and the wildlife sustaining overgrown corners are cleared and wet spots and ponds are drained in many areas. The scenario increases with the lower volumes of Kale, Oil-seed rape, Oats, Turnips and Potatoes being grown and the many cornfields re-sown with winter corn that covers fallen grain and eliminates a winters crop of weeds that provide an excellent source of food and insect life. In addition the scarcity of wild fruits and windfall apples from the effects of the Spring frosts has added to the potential loss of food supply. Temporarily replaced by scraps of meal from troughs where animals are being fed outdoors, this source will cease when the stock is sold on or moved indoors. The strength of the local habitat thanks to the creation of game sanctuaries by local farmers, the Tidy Towns Committee and the gun clubs wildlife preserved areas in Kilmacoliver, Poulrone, Tullahought and around the wildlife lake was the arrival of buzzards in the area for the first time earlier in the year. To maintain their presence the amount of habitat and sanctuary areas that need to be protected to ensure a full chain of wildlife from insects to rabbits needs to be well managed. In other areas groups use Game Council funding to expand the wildlife species and enhance areas for the return of duck and the restoration of the wildlife stocks that have produced less and smaller clutches nationwide over the poor summer weather.
DEFRIBILATOR: To maximise the medical advantages from the forthcoming provision of Defibrillators for Windgap and Tullahought villages a wide geographical spread of trained users in the area is recommended. The next training course is being organised and if you are interested in a place on this course to cover your hinterland please give your name to any member of the committee or contact Joan at 086-1024892 as soon as possible.
COMPUTER COURSE: Beginner Computer Classes are commencing in early November in the GAA Club Rooms under the GAA Social Initative Scheme. If you are interested contact Helen Walsh on 086 8400344 to book a place.
CLUB NEWS: This Weeks Winning Numbers were 4, 5, 15, 18 and bonus number 3. This Weeks Prize fund is €7,050. A recent match three winner was Dan Phelan.
HOLIDAY FUND: Tickets are available through Club committee members for the Kilkenny Senior hurlers training and holiday fund. Costing €10 the first prize is €5000.
WALKING OUT: Organized walking trips continue in Windgap on Saturday mornings at the Lake at 9.30 and in Tullahought on Monday evenings at 7.30pm. In the past week additional occasions have been added by the participants.
BRING AND BUY: Windgap Parents association are holding a fundraising Bring and Buy sale in the Parish Hall on Saturday 10th of November at 2pm.

RESOURCE CENTRE: A Children’s Halloween Party Bash will be held in Droichead Family Resource Centre, The Friary, and Callan for young people up to 12 years old. There will be a Halloween disco & a fancy dress competition. Admission will be €3 per child. It will be held on Friday, October 26th from 3pm – 5pm.
ALZHEIMERS DEMENTIA: A facilitated support group, for carers of people with
Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Providing a safe space for information exchange, emotional and practical support and the opportunity to network with other carers in similar positions.
