Friday 29th August, 2014: Official opening Heritage Week and Exhibition of old photographs by Mr. Eamon Aylward, Chairman of Piltown Municipal District at 8.00p.m. with Cheese and Wine Reception in Tullahought Community Centre. 8.30p.m: Lecture by Mr. Richard Hyland, Kilkenny entitled ‘Slatequarries 1820 to 1827 – Hyland Family Connection.’ 9.30p.m.: Traditional Music session, song and storytelling.
Saturday 30th August 2014: Photographic Exhibition from 3.00p.m. 8.00p.m. Opening of Quern Stone Sculpture beside Wildlife Lake, followed by Lecture given by Dr. Barry O’Reilly, Fethard, entitled ‘Domestic Milling in Ireland.’ in Tullahought Community Centre.
Sunday 31stAugust, 2014: Camogie and Hurling Blitz – Under 12’s - Mike Williams Memorial Shield 11.00a.m. in Tullahought Sportsfield. Photographic Exhibition continues – 12.00 noon - 500p.m. in Tullahought Community Centre. 2.30pm: Kilmacoliver Loop Walk starting at Tullahought Community Centre. 2.00p.m. - Traditional Skills display and Vintage Car Display in Tullahought Village.

KELLS HERITAGE WEEK EVENTS: (1) Guided tours of Kells Priory on Friday 29th August from 11.30 a.m. – 12.45 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. – 3.15 p.m.; (2) Public access to the restored Abbey Tower on Friday 29th August from 10.30 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. Numbers will be limited and not suitable for people with limited mobility.: (3) Walking tour of Kells Village from 2.00 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. on Saturday 30th from 2.00 p.m. – 3.00 p.m.

SOUTH KILKENNY HISTORICAL SOCIETY Exhibition of Hidden Gems & Forgotten People and Fieldnames of South Kilkenny Tuesday 26th August to Saturday 30th August in Ferrybank Library. The Official opening, by Canon Sean O'Doherty, will take place at 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday August 26th.

KILKENNY BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT: As part of marking the 25th anniversary of Kilkenny Bereavement Support, a series of talks is being held in the Ormond Hotel, Kilkenny. The first of these is by Dr Mark Rowe on Tuesday 2nd September at 8.00pm. The talk is entitled: “A Prescription for Happiness - new understandings of wellbeing”. You are invited to join Dr. Mark for a stimulating and entertaining evening and walk away with a tool kit for meaning and wellbeing – a prescription for cultivating inner happiness. Admission is €10.

Droichead Family Resource Centre, Callan: (1) Callan meet and train group meet every Wednesday & Thursday at 7.00 p.m. in Droichead FRC in Callan. This group is open to all. A trained leader from will offer advice on fitness and nutrition. Cost €3 per night; (2) Men’s Fitness Programme: This group will begin on Thurs Sept 25th at 6.00 p.m.. There will be a personal trainer (Alan Superfittin) to offer advice to all levels. €3 per night. For any extra info call Alan on 0851580796; (3) Return to Learning Course in Callan: The BTEI is currently offering Free part-time Fetac accredited Classes to all early school leavers and /or those in receipt of JSA/SB and /or any other SW payment. Those with a current Medical card and /or signing for credits are also eligible. N.B.: those in receipt of JSA/JSB will maintain their maximum current SW entitlements.
