FEILE FAILTE: Following weeks of preparation the Féile na nGael weekend has finally arrived and the communities involved in the teams from Galmoy, Windgap, Callan and Dunnamaggin parishes and towns lands too numerous to mention extend a Céad Mile Fáilte to the players, mentors, parents and family members of Clann na Gael from Meath in hurling and Knockananna from Wicklow in Camogie. Arriving on Friday evening the teams will play at least three games with a view to getting to the finals of the Olympic Games of their sport in in Camogie in Kilkenny and Carlow in hurling on Sunday afternoon. In between it promises to be a memorable occasion meeting new friends and participating in the various activities that have been arranged. In the Hurling the host and visiting sides compete with Ballyhale Shamrocks and Athleague Tremane from Roscommon in Division 9 whilst the Camogie teams play Goresbridge Paulstown and Four Masters from Donegal in Division 7.

LEINSTER CHAMPIONS: History was made in Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday when Windgap captured the Leinster League Division 3 Hurling title with a 1-10 to 0-7 win over Shanahoe for Laois in front of eighteen thousand people. Playing against very strong breeze the side were 0-5 to 0-4 behind at the break and were tied at 0-7 approaching the three quarter way stage. In the last stretch of the game they turned on the style with an unanswered 1-3 to take the title. After the game joint Captains Niall Walsh and Cian Ryan with a memorable acceptance speech as Gaeilge were presented with the trophy from the Leinster Council vice chairperson Pat Teehan. FEILE THANKS: Sincere thanks are extended to all the volunteers who have worked since Christmas on providing the new ball nets and fencing on the main, school and training pitches and also with the washing, strimming, painting and the many other improvements at the grounds. Also to the County Council for tarmacking the driveway and to the Tidy Towns group whose work has enhanced the area for the locals and visitors. Still on the agenda for the vast team of volunteers are the weekend catering and additional activities.

FEILE TIMETABLE: Coordinated by both Clubs Féile officers Breda O’Shea and Simon Brophy the weekend activities are to be seen on windgap.ie.

FEILE PHOTOS: A major of feature of the weekend will be the new club photo gallery put together by Pat and Molly Walsh and their team. It reflects the history of the club in team photos since it was founded in 1954 and also the local teams that represented the area over the past from hundred years.

CLANN NA GAEL HURLING: The visiting Clann Na nGael Féile na nGael Hurling Panel is Evan Cole, Cillian Heaney, Jeaic Murray Gregory McKenna Oisín Durcan Sean Griffin Pearse Griffin Euan Herbert Ronan McLoughlin Jack McLoughlin Deirdre McLoughlin Ross Farrelly Ben Macken Dean Walsh Joe Ennis Cormac Smith Eugene O'Reilly Sean Og Tiernan Daragh O'Reilly James Black Brendan Smith Nathan Hegarty and Cian Griffin. At the weekend they will be looked after by their mentors Benny Murray Gary Cole Shane Durcan Hilary Smith. The Galmoy Windgap panel is  Sean Barron, Zak Kennedy, Sean Purcell, Adam O'Shea, Blade O'Gorman, Matt Delaney, Billy Drennan, Coleman Moloney, Rohan Lonergan, John Dermody, Niall Drennan, Killian Doyle, Karl McCoy, Niall O'Brien, Jamie Joy, Killian Enright, Cian Horgan, Jack O'Shea, James Purcell, Ronan O'Brien, Callum Lonergan, Daniel Hanrahan, James Darcy, Gearoid Phelan and their team mentors are Liam Drennan Joe Phelan Matthew O'Shea Declan Kennedy John Enright

KNOCKANANNA CAMOGIE: The visiting Féile na nGael Camogie panel is Tara McDonald, Eimer Mutton, Kayla Tighe, Roisin Byrne, Aobha Harmon, Amy  Roche, Ciara Byrne, Alice Mulhall, Jodie Murphy, Emer Furlong, Sal Murray, Jane Keogh, Emer Breslin, Caoimhe Coogan, Alanna Coogan, Emer O Sullivan, Megan  Whelan, Rosemary Keating.  The side’s coaches are Tom Byrne and Lisa Fanning. The Windgap side is Ali Kennedy, Orlaith O’Shea, Eimear Smith, Emer Barron, Victoria O’Brien, Sarah Dowling, Culleton, Sara Gleeson, Aoibheann Holden, Cliodhna O’Shea, Ava O’Brien, Alannah Holden, Denise Foley, Chloe Gunn, Sontae Jackson, Nathania Jackson, Sarah Cullen, Sarah McCoy, Rachel Doherty, Ria McCormack,    Megan Kenneally, Eleanor Hayes, Niamh Enright, Rosa White, Ava Lily O Neill with mentors Michael O’Shea, Michelle O’Brien, Paraic Holden.

FEILE HANDBALL: In a unique achievement for the combined Galmoy Windgap under fourteen hurling team players from Galmoy area took their first Division One Féile Handball title in Wexford on Saturday when they replaced their team mates from Windgap who were the holders of the All Ireland title in 2016. In the event Windgap had two boys and one girls team competing in the National Finals in Wexford. They were Sean, Barron, Sean Purcell, Adam O’Shea and Blade O’Gorman and Karl McCoy, Cillian Doyle, Zak Kennedy, David and Jamie Joy. The girl’s side was Sontae Jackson, Cliodhna O’Shea, Nathania Jackson, Emer Smith, Emer Barron.  

TIDY TOWNS: Work continued in all fronts as the Super Valu Tidy Towns judges set out on their adjudication of almost a thousand towns and villages nationwide. Looking resplendent Tullahought seeks to retain their Silver Medal Award whilst Windgap aims to extend on its award winning success in just its second year in the competition in recent times.

LINGAUN VALLEY: Pat Spillane of Football fame and Siobhan Burke of the Sheepshead peninsula in West Cork were the guest speakers at the KLP tourism presentation in the Springhill Hotel on Wednesday night when the sacred and heritage gems of the High Crosses, Burial Chambers, Grottos, Slatequarries and the rural scenic beauty of the Lingaun Valley were the focus of the presentations. Present on the night were Noreen Hayes and Jimmy Walsh from the local area.

CAMOGIE: The Senior Camogie team went down to Dicksboro in the All-County League fixture in Palmerstown.

HURLERS DRAW: The annual Hurlers Co-Op Draw with €110,000 in prize money in cars holidays and cash was launched recently. Tickets from any committee member or also online on kilkennygaa.ie

LOTTO: The winning numbers of 1, 13, 23, 28 and Bonus number 6. With one Jackpot winner next week’s prize fund is €6,000. Tickets are available from any committee member.
