Windgap Parish's great community spirit continued to be evident with the huge turnout at the tractor run and "bring and buy" based around the community hall. Forty Seven tractors, some old, some new, some borrowed and some blue - representing all corners of the parish and beyond made the trip via Coolagh, Kilmoganny, Tullaghought and back to Windgap, and provided a great buzz in the village today Saturday. Here are a few photographs gleaned from various sources. Noel R will be uploading some professional ones later !

OUT AND ABOUT: Just days into the start of this years shooting season the area around the wildlife lakes and amenity area provided by the local community and Tidy Towns group in Tullahought was hunted. Elsewhere chip bags and fast food containers from as far away as Tramore were dumped in the locality. Their appearance joins the many soft drinks cans and bottles that are continually thrown onto the roadside margins and ditches from passing vehicles within weeks of the area retaining its Tidy Towns Bronze medal. LOOKING GOOD: Autumnal colours, good views and the fine weather attracted many walkers and day-trippers to the area in recent weeks. Using the Viewing Tower as a focal point they made their way to the nearby, high crosses, walks, Coshel and Grotto. Amongst those were many international visitors who were pointed to the area of high amenity and historical features and those who liked to stay away from the major routes and roads. The early splurge of berried holly that had added a red hue to some ditches has taking a hammering from Thrushes over recent days as has the beech trees who lost lots of their colourful foliage in the heavy showers. GALMOY WINDGAP: In preparation for their under twenty one tie with championship favourites Kilmacow on the coming weekend the side travelled to play Moyne Templetuohy in a Challenge game in Templetuohy on Sunday last. On the day the home side who had appeared in the recent County Intermediate Final were too strong for the combined side who featured players who had won both the Northern and Southern Junior titles. HANDBALL REPORT: The AGM of Windgap Handball Club took place in the Alley on Saturday evening. Reviewing a successful year, it saw club members compete at all levels in club, county, provincial, national colleges and inter varsitiy competitions. The club were the benefactors of sponsorship received from Glanbia, Bretts and Richard White. The roll of honour for the year showed nineteen county and four 40x20 title, one One-Wall county title and six 60x30 county, four Leinster and one Inter varsity crown. In addition the club hosted the county one wall championships that is on now well its way to become an Olympic sport. During the year work was carried out on the roof and emergency lighting and proposed works for the coming year included the changing of the alley keys, maintenance work on the back wall, gutters, showers and the erection of de- fibrillator signs. Also planned are the completion of Garda Vetting and the organisation of Code of Ethics and Coaching Courses. Present and re-elected at the meeting were Chairperson Gerard Doyle, Secretary Michael O'Shea, Treasurer Michael Grace Simon Brophy, Jimmy Purcell, Jimmy Walsh and Eamon Purcell. Having shown a slight loss over the year's workings a strong debate took place on the extensive alterations and costs that may occur if the new hall project gets off the ground. Plans were then put in place to promote the annual fundraising draw. After the list of coaches was drawn up for each grade the registration date was set for Thursday 7th. After registration the booking sheets will be available on the notice board to members after eleven each Sunday morning. DECOUPAGE CLASSES: Make your own Christmas presents this year.
